Lists of structural and nonstructural approaches a community can use to reduce or prevent future flood damages. Structural approaches include dams, reservoirs, levees, floodwalls, channel improvements, diversions, and water treatment. Nonstructural approaches include floodplain regulation, zoning, building codes, subdivision regulations, stormwater management, acquisition/relocation, tax incentives, floodproofing, information/education, floodforecasting/warning, emergency preparedness, flood insurance, and post flood recovery.
